Stupid Lab Report!

Today I think that I somewhat offended someone when I called lab reports "busy work".

I hadn't really put much thought into it until I talked about it with this person, but for Science Majors, these lab reports are their "work". That's what they do... Unlike all those papers about "Symbolism in Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray" and all those other essays that I consider "fun". (I am kind of kidding when it comes to the "fun" thing, but I would rather write that kind of paper than fill out a lab report). But the truth is...

I hate lab reports....

Especially the long, stupid, formal ones.

I've been busy all day and I have been working on this stuff for quite a while:

In this lab report, multiple lab experiments were conducted in order to: (1) become more familiar with Newton’s Laws of Motion, and (2) explore the properties of thermal energy as heat interacts with different substances.

Newton’s laws of motion transformed science into something completely different using his three laws of motion (laws of inertia, action and reaction, and acceleration proportional to force).
.... blah blah blah.

And ya know.... sometimes you just have to pick your battles...

This is one battle that I am just going to rush through. I don't care.

I still have a group meeting at 8:15 tonight for another project... Oh, no...

  2. I hate lab reports, too. Unless real research is being done, they are busy work -- basically regurgitating every obvious point that has been made by the book, professor, etc....
